Our universe

So far, we have only described the Big Bang model in general terms: on the largest scales we can observe, the universe appears nearly uniform, it is currently expanding, and there is strong evidence that it was hotter and denser in the past ( ... )

New exoplanet - kepler 20
NASA's Kepler mission discovered the first Earth-size planets around a star beyond our own. The system is jam-packed with five planets, all circling within a distance roughly equivalent to Mercury's orbit in our solar system.
The two Earth-size planets, which are presumably rocky, are Kepler-20e and Kepler-20f, and the three larger gas planets are Kepler-20b, Kepler-20c and Kepler-20d. The arrangement of the planets from the closest to its star to the farthest is: b, e, c, f and d, with the ordering of the letters reflecting the time at which the planets were initially discovered.

The arrangement of the planets from the closest to its star to the farthest is: b, e, c, f and d, with the ordering of the letters reflecting the time at which the planets were initially discovered.
“The primary goal of the Kepler mission is to find Earth-sized planets in the habitable zone," said Francois Fressin of the Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics in Cambridge, Mass., lead author of a new study published in the journal Nature. "This discovery demonstrates for the first time that Earth-size planets exist around other stars, and that we are able to detect them.”
The Kepler-20 system includes three other planets that are larger than Earth but smaller than Neptune. Kepler-20b, the closest planet, Kepler-20c, the third planet, and Kepler-20d, the fifth planet, orbit their star every 3.7, 10.9 and 77.6 days. The host star belongs to the same G-type class as our sun, although it is slightly smaller and cooler. The system has an unexpected arrangement. In our solar system, small, rocky worlds orbit close to the sun and large, gaseous worlds orbit farther out. In comparison, the planets of Kepler-20 are organized in alternating size: large, small, large, small and large.
"The Kepler data are showing us some planetary systems have arrangements of planets very different from that seen in our solar system," said Jack Lissauer, planetary scientist and Kepler science team member at NASA's Ames Research Center in Moffett Field, Calif. "The analysis of Kepler data continue to reveal new insights about the diversity of planets and planetary systems within our galaxy."
"In the cosmic game of hide and seek, finding planets with just the right size and just the right temperature seems only a matter of time," said Natalie Batalha, Kepler deputy science team lead and professor of astronomy and physics at San Jose State University. "We are on the edge of our seats knowing that Kepler's most anticipated discoveries are still to come." ( .... )

Defining a Survivalist? Sustainable development and Live protection out of the lethean river
A survivalist is someone who seeks to control the impact of major crisis that could affect their way of life. Crisis can range from localised natural disasters such as bushfires, cyclones or floods to the complete collapse of society as we know it. Crisis can also be more mundane such as the loss of income due to retrenchment or loss of a job.
Whatever the crisis or reasons for becoming involved in survivalism, the preparing a controlled response is key.
It has been estimated that a single edition of a daily newspaper today contains more world news that most individuals would be exposed to in a lifetime in the 17th century. We live in an information age and in order to cope with the sheer volume of information and influences on our lives we delegate some of the responsibility to others. We believe that by paying taxes and electing a government that politicians will ensure that we have power to our homes, clean water to drink and food to purchase. The reality is that this is a house of cards. The systems to bring food from the farm to your table are so complex and interdependent that if one system fails the impact is felt at every level.
This also leads to a malaise with regard to how events effect us. For example someone is injured in your immediate family, everyone is immediately concerned. Two people are killed in your town and it makes the front pages, 20 people are killed in the state, 100 killed somewhere else in the country, 1000 killed in Indonesia, 10,000 killed in turkey, 100,000 killed in China.

Business Ethics and Paradox of modern times
Whatever your activity, your field, it’s important to preserve integrity in Business, what we are used to call business ethics.
What might be considered as evil today could be a salvation way for tomorrow. Nevertheless, it’s important to preserve and to respect individual identities , souls, spirits and bodies.

Russia And Norway Reach Artic Agreement – After 40 Years
The frontiers at the bottom of the Barents Sea and the Arctic Ocean have long been a source of contention between Moscow and Oslo for many years. Now, after some 40 years of negotiations, Norway and Russia have reached agreement over their undersea borders in the high north.
“This is an historic day. We have reached a breakthrough in the most important outstanding issue between Norway and the Russian Federation.”
The borders defining the nationality at the bottom of the Barents Sea and the Arctic Ocean have long been a source of contention between Moscow and Oslo.
( ... )
The EU for its part in 2008 published a security analysis highlighting the boundary disputes at the pole, arguing that the bloc should boost its civil and military capacities to respond to “serious security risks” resulting from catastrophic climate change.
“I believe this will open the way for many joint projects, especially in the area of energy,” Russian President Dmitri Medvedev told reporters after the meetings in Oslo yesterday.
The agreement will see a maritime delimitation line that divides a disputed area of some 175,000 square kilometres of the Arctic shelf in two parts of roughly the same size. The document also provides for fisheries and oil and gas co-operation, with language on work together to manage marine life. ( ... )
